Steel Pipes

Helical Submerged Arc Welded Steel Pipe (HSAW) – Standard EN 10224

The helical submerged arc welded (HSAW) steel pipe, in accordance with EN 10224, is a type of steel pipe manufactured through a welding process where the weld seam is applied in a helical (spiral) pattern along the pipe. The EN 10224 standard defines the technical requirements for steel pipes used in various applications, including fluid and gas transportation systems.

Main Features of HSAW Pipe EN 10224:

Manufacturing Process

Helical welding is a technique in which a steel plate is rolled into a cylindrical shape and the edges of the plate are welded in a spiral pattern. This results in a seam that follows a helical form along the length of the pipe.

Properties

  • Strength: These pipes have good mechanical properties and resistance to internal and external pressure.
  • Finish: The helical welding process offers a good combination of strength and flexibility, making the pipe suitable for high-strength applications.

Applications

  • HSAW pipes are commonly used in liquid and gas transportation systems, such as water, oil, and natural gas.
  • They are also used in infrastructure applications such as pipeline construction, gas pipelines, irrigation systems, etc.

EN 10224 Standard

  • Defines the requirements for chemical composition, mechanical properties, and tests to be performed on welded steel pipes.
  • Specifies the dimensions, tolerances, and weld quality, as well as inspection and testing criteria.

Materials

Pipes manufactured according to EN 10224 generally use carbon steel or steel alloys, with properties suitable to withstand internal or external pressures depending on the application.

Advantages

  • The helical welding process is efficient and cost-effective for manufacturing large-diameter pipes.
  • These pipes have good corrosion resistance when properly treated and coated, which increases their durability and reliability.
